Over the past several weeks, we’ve received some discomforting e-mails regarding us charging for the plugin.
We are not trying to rip anybody off here. We charge a very (very) reasonable price for the plugin (starts at only $10/year).
One person e-mailed us:
We have to pay for this plugin now? Seriously?
I felt personally attacked by this e-mail since a lot of blood and tears has been spent into making this plugin as popular as it is now. Such an e-mail tremendously undervalues the time it takes to maintain and support the plugin.
Here’s another one:
This kind of marketing only means I’ll stop using this widget on my 20 or so blogs. I will also write WordPress about this, and do my best to have them stop advertisements of your widget on all WordPress blogs and pages.
I asked for clarification of our “marketing tactics”, but never received a response.
We’re not trying to scam anyone, or “trick” anyone into paying for the plugin. We don’t cripple the plugin in any way, and it still remains GPL. You can use the free version (v.3.1), or subscribe and receive some much needed updates (we’re at version 3.3 now).
On a positive note, here are some nice comments from our subscribers:
All I can say is that Ajax Edit Comments plugin has been a godsend for our website CarAdvice.com.au – we get over 1000 new comments per day and over 80,000 visitors and having this plugin means all our regulars and new commentors can easily edit their comments on the fly and allow for much better discussions.
Additionally we had an issue with an older version of this plugin and the author fixed it for us in less than 24 hours. I cant honestly have asked for more!
