hotforwords on "Conflict with Colorbox"

Hi,
I use a plugin called Lightbox Plus which loads Colorbox. Now, AEC also loads colorbox (a different version).

The result is that I now have 2 colorbox javascripts loaded and they conflict with each other.

For one: The AEC ends up taking over the CSS of my Lightbox CSS.

And two: the Cancel button no longer works and when you edit a comment, you have to manually close the popup screen each time.

When I only have one of the plugins running (AEC), the Cancel button works and the popup screen closes automatically when I am done editing the comment.

How can I get AEC to not load the colorbox script and NOT break (as I tried making it not load the script, by commenting out where it loads the script, but then the plugin breaks for some reason).

Thanks!

Marina http://www.hotforwords.com

iPhoneclub on "Report comments"

For AEC 4.1 or later I would love to have a solid 'Report Comments' feature, available to anonymous users or logged in users depending on your choice in the admin backend. There are currently two plugins providing this functionality, but both are limited and/or have bugs. Plus, I think this is a logical expansion for Ajax Edit Comments.

Report Comments Plugin by Dagon Design

AJAX Report Comments

My wishes for this feature:

Ability for the reporter to enter his email address (optionally required)

Ability for the reporter to enter the reason for the report (optionally required)

Report feature for end user should open in a modal window (which in AEC's case is ColorBox)

Powered with basic form of Captcha support (ReCaptcha?)

X reports for the same comment by different reporters automatically unapproves the comment, hiding it from plain view (optional feature)

Email report to blog users with moderate_comment capability with action links (Spam/Trash/Unapprove) (optional feature)

Dashboard feature with overview of all reported comments with AEC integration (nice to have, Ajax Report Comments has this, although cumbersome)

Admin approved reported comments cannot be reported again

Both of the listed plugins do one thing or the other, but not all of the above. Ajax Report Comments comes really close, but has some really annoying bugs which - according to the developer(s) should have been fixed in 2.0.3 (multiple comments from the same reporter), but in fact still exist. It's also using fairly slow performing JavaScript features causing the multiple reports (since a user doesn't notice the JS has to be loaded) and forces another library on every page load (tw-sack.js, which is included with WordPress).

Unfortunately, my pleas to the developer have fallen on deaf ears. Besides, like already mentioned, I think this is an excellent and logical feature for Ajax Edit Comments, which already has a real solid base. Some of the plugin's logic could possibly be done through the new commentsmeta table.

Hope you will consider this for a (hopefully soon) future release.

Hi, I just moved my site to a new server, I deleted the plugin then added it again (it's on the same domain, but I wanted to make sure i started fresh.)

Now, I am getting a couple problems:

1 - I cannot get icons to show for the life of me now.

perhaps it's related to this link not working? (I grabbed it from the header)

http://www.hotforwords.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-ajax-edit-comments/css/edit-comments.css.php?iconsize=16&iconset=classy-small&rtl=false&icondisplay=classic&ver=4.1

2 - I cannot get Load wp-load.php Directly to work, even though my Wordpress installation is standard and it worked before on my previous server.

3 - I also think my css is not loading for the popup edit window.

My site is at http://www.hotforwords.com you can go ahead and sigh up to test the edit window if you need to.

On the Thesis website, I saw at least one other person who said they have the same problem. Considering there are so many Thesis users out there, perhaps you've got some information on this? Thanks.

I just released version 4.1.0.1 and the 'Check for Upgrades' button on the plugin page correctly identifies a new ugprade, but WordPress keeps saying that "You are using the latest version."

I just wanted to let you know that I'm aware of this issue and hope to resolve it within the next few releases.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

As a side note, the plugin still checks for upgrades every 12 hours, so within a day of a release, your WP Dashboard should reflect the new version. The 'Check for Upgrades' button is intended for those who have problems with automatic upgrades showing up.

Hi.. when my users edit a comment, they lose extra carriage returns. In other words, when a persons starts a new paragraph and hits return twice, the comments shows properly, but the second the comment is edited, the second carriage return disappears.

This problem does NOT occur on your website, so you have yours set up differently from mine somehow. My site is at: http://www.hotforwords.com if you want to test it.

Hi Ronald,

Been having problems again with AEC 4.1.0.0. The popup for 'Edit comment' either hangs on 'Loading' or shows an empty popup with the message 'Are you sure you want to do this'. If I check my server's error.log I see a lot of fatal errors for AEC:

[Sun Jun 27 03:36:26 2010] [error] [client -removed] PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function get_error_message() on a non-object in -removed/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/wp-ajax-edit-comments/wp-ajax-edit-comments.php on line 1105, referer: -removed/?aec_page=comment-editor.php&action=editcomment&cid=229418&pid=78118&_wpnonce=60feb74749&height=435&width=560

There's one very weird thing I'm seeing: this only happens with Safari 5 (I'm on Mac, but might be with Safari 5/Windows as well). In Chrome 5/Mac or FF3.6/Mac the popup with the comment is loading perfectly fine Unfortunately for me a lot of our visitors are using Safari <img src='http://www.ajaxeditcomments.com/forums/my-plugins/bb-emoticons/smilies/icon_redface.gif' alt=' ops:' class='wp-smiley' />

Have you had reports about this from other Safari users as well?

FYI: I'm using the wp-load.php method in AEC as I'm using W3 Total Cache (we've had lots of email conversation about this some time ago).

I'm not sure if this is related to the 3.0 upgrade since I just noticed it now, but the thickbox feature seems broken in IE8.

It works fine in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, but of course its IE that has the problem. I did notice if I put it in compatibility mode it works fine.

Basically what happens is when you click on the thickbox to expand the comments into a new window, it instead condenses into a weenie little rectangle on the upper left side of the screen, making it unusable. The only way I can get rid of it is with the escape key.

If I have time I'll go through the motions of deactivating the plugins to see if this is a plugin conflict and report back here, but just wanted to give a heads up in the meantime.

I just upgraded my Ajax Edit Comments plugin to the latest version (Version 4.1.0.0 ) using the Wordpress Plugins page. The upgrade seemed to go well , the plugin was automatically reactivated, but when I clicked on the Ajax Edit Comments link under Settings in the left sidebar something strange happened -- an error popped up telling me that I did not have permission to view that page. And now there is no Ajax Edit Comments link under the Settings sidebar.

The plugin still seems to be working on the front-end of my blog, though.

Any idea what is happening?

Previously posted at WPTavern

1. I believe function add_script_vars (line 46) can be easily changed to wp_footer instead of wp_head (I need to do this after every upgrade). Also, most Javascript files (function add_scripts, lines 1452-14890) could also benefit from switching to loading in the footer (I believe this is only for newer WP versions through wp_enqueue_script, but would love to see a conditional for this) (again, works fine in my installation, but need to do this after every new version of AEC)

(my code change for line 46)

add_action('wp_footer', array(&$this, 'add_script_vars'), 1001);

(my code changes for lines 1460-1461)

wp_enqueue_script('colorbox', $this->pluginDir . '/js/jquery.colorbox-min.js', array("jquery"), '', true);
wp_enqueue_script('wp_ajax_edit_comments_script', $this->pluginDir . '/js/wp-ajax-edit-comments.js', array("jquery", "wp-ajax-response", "colorbox") , 2.3, true);

2. An even better option would be to let advanced users disable loading of all the JS files and variables, so we could offload these to a CDN (like you let us define our own CSS files, albeit this won’t let us offload to another server, since it has to be a relative path). This also goes for additional css files like the new colorbox.css.

3. If option ‘No icons’ is chosen (Styles > Determine Icon Display/Sets), AEC still loads the selected icons css file (e.g. wp-ajax-edit-comments/css/themes/circular/edit-comments.css) and thus all the (redudant) icon images in that css file. Maybe a separate ‘no-icons’ theme would be a solution?

Also, I'd like to see AEC becoming much more query friendly, as posted in this comment at WPTavern.

I am getting
By subscribing to the Ajax Edit Comments Forums, you will get access to automatic upgrades and support.
below AEC in the plugins list. I have a valid key and have tried revalidating it (it says it is ok), deactivating and re-activating the plugin and that message is still there.

I don't recall seeing it before. Does it mean updates are now blocked?

FYI I have also copied the AEC folder to a test-site (in a subdomain on the same host) where I am testing it with WordPress 3 nightly builds. I cloned my whole site about a month ago. There is no key in the settings for that site.

Yes, it works - here is what you need to tweak in the WP Minify settings

Javascript files to exclude from minify (line delimited)

It even (impressively) works on the iPhone with WPtouch, except for spell-checking while you're editing the comment (I will cover that in a separate post). Note that Enable WPtouch Restricted Mode is unchecked.

This paid-for version also keeps itself off the front page (obviously no comments there) which is a very nice feature.

It works fine with wp-super-cache too.
Ditto with subscribe-to-comments & comment-license.

Invalid Authentication Key

I did upgrade Thesis from 1.6 to 1.7 yesterday, but that doesn't seem like it should cause that.

Any attempt to click on the other tabs just don't work. Also it freezed all other WordPress tabs on the same page. Please, what might be the cause of this problem?

Hi guys -

Having a problem with AJAX edit comments on my hosted Wordpress blog at http://ozymandias.com. The blog is using the Punchcut Pro theme from Theme Foundry (http://thethemefoundry.com).

AJAX Edit Comments *does* work within the blog control panel - I have a series of comments listed there, and I can choose to edit them using AJAX Edit Comments. However, I cannot for the life of me get AJAX Edit Comments to appear for users who are entering comments, or for myself, to edit existing comments.

Don't know if this is a theme issue, a configuration issue, or what. Really would love to get this working for my users!

Thank you!

The show-unread-comments plugin uses get_comment_time, which you hook. It apparently returns a date/time that upsets the show-unread-comments plugin. I fixed it by changing show-unread-comments to get the time the hard way (SQL query to get comment_date by comment_ID). But it would be nice if the hook didn't disturb the return value of get_comment_time().

Your plugin works awesomely with the potentially disastrous mix of plugins I am running with 1 curious exception.

When you edit a comment you have already left on an iPhone, it goes to the edit screen and I edit the comment then press the spell-check button it gets curious.

If there are no spelling errors then I get the pop-up saying all is ok, tap it and on we go.

If there IS a spelling error then it dies. The text box disappears then nothing happens. The buttons gray-out and you have to page-back to get going again.

I suspect the iPhone doesn't support the colorbox plugin. I tested it in Safari with an iPhone user-agent (Develop -> user-agent -> Mobile Safari 3.1.3 - a reasonably close simulation). The expand to full-screen button does not work - it threw a JavaScript error:
TypeError: Result of expression 'parent.jQuery.fn.colorbox' [undefined] is not an object.

Wait, that's probably not it. The response from http://www.polishmywriting.com/atd_jquery/server/proxycss.php was blank (in Safari), although the response-header said it had content. Safari (aka iPhone) complained
Resource interpreted as stylesheet but transferred with MIME type text/plain.
about proxycss.php. Maybe the "css" in the file name messed it up? I think this is the most likely culprit - MIME troubles.

Perhaps it didn't like the user-agent (generated by Safari)?
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16

This is certainly not a deal-breaker for me. I just thought it might be an indicator of a bug somewhere in the handling of the response from the spell-checker. It looks a lot like this is out of your control if it is a bug at polishmywriting.com. Perhaps you could force the MIME type to text so it is not interpreted as CSS.

As I said - it's no deal-breaker.

cheers

I'm using the FV Community News plugin on climategate.com and am having a conflict.

When you look at it, it will be working because I turned of Edit Comments for pages, which fixes it. But let me explain.

You'll see the results of the Community Links plugin in column 2 under "Reader Submitted News." When I have Edit Comments on for pages, it only shows the first news item (which is a comment) and then cuts off the display after that. When I looked at the page source in Firefox, it appears that it is trying to display the editing options for the first comment and then choking.

How do I disable the Edit Comments for this area, which is displayed through a widget. I can put php in this widget, if that helps.

I notice that the standard Recent Comment display in the third column does not show the comment editing options, so obviously it can be turned off for a widget. Just don't know what to do...

Thank you very much.

This is what is in my widget:

<p>We are testing this, please give it a try</p>

Hello,

I've upgraded to version 4.0 and am eager to take advantage of the After The Deadline integration. I installed After The Deadline (v. 0.49006) and it's working great when writing my posts, but the ABC button isn't showing up in my comments, either on the page or in the pop-ups. (The Expand button is showing up in both places, though.) I've tried toggling the radio button in the Ajax Edit Comments settings for the After the Deadline option, but I can't seem to get it to show. (Right now, I've left that option to "No" -- so don't disable After The Deadline.)

Is there something else I need to do? I'm including a link to one of my most recent posts if that helps -- please be advised that my blog is Not Safe For Work.
